Treat Asthma With Homoeopathy

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease caused by the inflammation of the airways resulting in attacks of wheezing, coughing and difficulty in breathing. Asthma typically develops in early childhood and often continues into adulthood; though many times fresh asthma can develop even in old age. A personal or family history of allergies is often noted in people with asthma.

Cause: Abnormal sensitivity to certain triggers causes the muscles surrounding the air passages to inflame. This inflammation causes narrowing of the air passages thus resulting in reduced air flow. The irritated cells cause increased production of mucus further clogging the already narrow air passages. This results in difficulty in breathing.

Common triggers of asthma are:

• Dust mites
• Cockroaches
• Cold weather
• Foods like peanuts, eggs, shellfish
• Pollens
• Respiratory infections, such as the common cold
• Stress (emotional / physical)
• Fumes
• Animal fur/dander

Symptoms:

The most common symptoms are wheezing and coughing. Other symptoms include difficulty in breathing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, sweating, anxiety, rapid pulse, etc. The severity of the attack varies from person to person. It may last for a few minutes or may carry on for a few hours or even days. During the attack the person prefers to sit upright to ease the airflow. Confusion, lethargy and blue skin color are signs that the person is not getting enough oxygen and emergency treatment is required. With appropriate treatment usually the person recovers completely.

General Treatment:

• Avoid substances that trigger asthmatic symptoms.
• Eat healthy nutritious foods
• Regularly perform light exercises
• Breathing exercises will help to increase lung capacity.
• Yoga, meditation helps to relieve stress.

Homeopathic Treatment:

An asthmatic patient can very well live a normal life with the help of homoeopathic medication. These medicines help to increase the vitality of the patient so that the person becomes immune to the triggers that precipitate the asthmatic attack. Armed with a better immunity, the patient can many a times be completely cured of this nagging ailment.

Homoeopathy aims at treating the root cause of the disease and not just the symptoms of the disease. The medicines are made from natural sources and when administered by certified homoeopathic doctors, usually don't have adverse effects.

The medicines are palatable and easy to administer and ideal for all age groups. Children love homoeopathic pills as they are sweet. This makes the job of administering medication even more simple for the parents.

Some of the frequently indicated homoeopathic remedies are ars-alb, ipecac, sulphur, ignatia, spongia, ant-tart, hepar-sulph, lachesis, pulsatilla and tuberculinum.
