Top 3 Telltale Symptoms of Asthma in Adults

Unlike children, adults have a better grasp and understanding of the situation, they pay more attention when times call for it and can ignore when they want to. While this may be a great attribute it seems that when it comes to asthma even adults sometimes don't have any idea as to what they're doing and how to deal or even recognize the symptoms associated with the condition.

It seems that the numerous amounts of information within the internet have done nothing but confuse things further. Here are some of the more common facts and fiction about asthma. Fact: asthma is a chronic respiratory condition; it is sensitive, irritating, and dangerous at the same time requiring constant monitoring and medication. Fiction: Asthma can be cured. If you weren't really paying attention to the word "chronic" then you'd probably also be led to believe that certain techniques and medication can eliminate asthma. Asthma is reversible, not curable.

At the same time, the asthma symptoms in adults may differ from those of older or younger individuals. Aside from the more common symptoms which are coughing, wheezing, and difficulty of breathing, asthma in adults contain a "little bit more". Sleep apnea for example has been highly associated in adults with asthma, having very low percentages in children and older asthmatics. Sleep apnea is a chronic condition which is characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. This condition can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes and is caused by the blockage of air passages due to mucus or inflammation.

Fatigue is another asthma symptom that can be misleading for adults. While it is normal to feel tired when participating in strenuous activities feeling tired most of the time could mean that your body is not getting enough oxygen in some places. This lack of oxygenation can bring about chronic fatigue. If you start to feel this symptom it would be best to have it checked as it can also be caused by other ailments.

Chest pains can also be a good indicator of asthma. The severity of the chest pain you may experience can vary, some being mild and bearable while some might lead you to believe that you are having a heart attack. If you are one of the few adults that experience this symptom every time an attack occurs, get an expert opinion about it as it may also be signs of something else.

There are other symptoms of asthma in adults, but what are listed here are those that will require your attention as they sometimes can be misleading. Remember when you are not sure about your condition, have yourself checked. Never try to self medicate as it can be very dangerous.
